We are looking for stories of magic. Whether its the magic of everyday life (starlight glinting off the first snow, the smell of petrichore filtering through an open window, or the moon shining behind a cast of clouds) or stories of the everyday life in worlds of magic (twin suns setting behind the horizon of a distant planet, seafoam trailing behind a pirate's ship crashing against the waves, and goldfish dancing between the trees of a watery forest).
We want magic.

Flashes of Magic accepts flash fiction pieces in all genres of speculative fiction. Slipstream and surrealism. Fantasy. Atompunk, cattlepunk, steampunk, piratepunk, and any punk under the sun. Anything with magic, however ordinary that magic may be. The magic of an everyday life, or the everyday life in a world of magic.
We do not accept pieces with excessive violence, horror, or sexual content. While tragedies, grim endings, and hopeless worlds have their place, we are primarily looking for stories with themes of hope, love, friendship, and happy endings. We only accept previously unpublished work. By submitting to Flashes of Magic, the author grants us first publishing rights and non-exclusive electronic permissions (for online archival purposes). Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please alert us asap via email if a piece is accepted elsewhere so we can take your piece out of our consideration pile. At this time, we do not provide payment for accepted pieces other than our heartfelt appreciation. We hope this can change in the future. We also have no charge for submissions. However, we are most appreciative of donations (coffee fuels all writing).
